What to look for when choosing flooring

Your flooring: Australian hardwood flooring is a unique natural product so when choosing your floor remember this. It too will be unique. Because flooring from North Eden Timber is sourced, dried and then milled on site to customer’s particular requirements and taste it is possible if an order is placed early enough to buy almost any species, colour or grade. Flooring grades have traditionally been separated into Select, Standard and Utility thus limited customer’s ability to mix and match.

Flooring from North Eden Timber can be sourced as follows:

Select: A particularly clear floor with little or no natural features other than grain variations.
Standard: Similar to select grade but containing more colour variation, some fine gum veins and at times attractive pin hole borer marks.
Standard & Better: This is an attractive mixture of the above two grades for those who want a clear floor but want to break it up slightly with a little more variation in colour and feature.
High Feature: An extremely attractive mixture of the boards carrying more of the natural features of timber e.g.; colour variations, gum veins and fine borer holes.
High Feature Plus: This floor is probably the most popular produced by North Eden Timber as it has ALL of the above. It is the type of floor that truly represents the natural beauty of Australian Hardwoods without having any “fall down” or waste product mixed in.
Natural Feature: This flooring contains all of the more significant “natural features” of the hardwoods. It will contain large gum veins, gum pockets, significant colour variation and natural checking. Natural Feature flooring is a little harder to lay, sand and seal but if you are prepared to persevere and your floor sander has the right product it looks absolutely sensational.
Utility Grade: This is a very low grade of flooring made up more of man made features such as broken tongues, cracking etc. It can be handy for some shed floors but probably has more use for someone who has the time to dock out all the problem areas and make furniture.
